Quetta meat prices soar despite govt’s fixed rates

The price of beef and mutton in Quetta has skyrocketed despite the government setting lower rates in its official price list.

A kilogramme of beef is being sold for Rs500 although the rate set by the government is Rs480 per kilo. Similarly, mutton prices set by Quetta’s administration are Rs850 per kilo, but it’s being sold at Rs1,150 per kg in the market.

According to butchers, the government does not take their opinion while setting prices. “The price list is just made for the sake of it, no one takes into account the costs we have incurred,” a butcher said.

Residents, on the other hand, have complained that in these conflicts between the government and sellers, they are ones who suffer the most.

All the shops selling overpriced meat should be sealed and sellers should be fined, they demanded.

Following this, the administration has assured that strict action will immediately be taken against hoarders and profiteers.
