Here are the headlines from SAMAA TV’s 9am bulletin.
- Another 91 people have died of the coronavirus in Pakistan, taking the toll to 4,395. So far, 213,000 infections have been reported across the country while over 108,000 people have recovered.
- India’s interference in Pakistan has become a norm and it will do anything to destabilise us, said Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi. He said India had staged “the Pulawama drama” when the world called it out on its Kashmir curfew.
- Two motorcyclists died on the spot in Pattoki after a truck driver slammed into them. In Shujabad, a passenger bus hit a car, killing a man and injuring three women.
- According to the Ministry of Finance, the prices of petroleum products might be reduced by up to Rs12. Pakistanis are currently paying a Rs30 levy on one litre of petrol and high-speed diesel. The Islamabad High Court will hear a petition challenging the Rs25 per litre increase in petrol prices.
- The European Union has allowed PIA to operate till July 3. However, the UAE Civil Aviation Authority has written a letter to Pakistan for the authentication of the licences of 50 Pakistani pilots and chartered flight operation officers.
- Prime Minister Imran Khan will chair a federal cabinet meeting to discuss increasing pensions of the Employees Old-Age Benefits Institution and approving auditors for the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan for 2020-21. The cabinet will also discuss licences granted for illegal firearms.
- Special Adviser to the Prime Minister on Finance Dr Hafeez Sheikh will meet a cabinet committee on privatisation.
- Nigar Johar Khan has become the Pakistan Army’s first female lieutenant general. She has also been appointed as the first woman surgeon general of the army.
- Pakistan cricket team has begun practicing ahead of their clashes with England. Spinner Zafar Gohar and the team physiotherapist’s coronavirus test results have come back negative.
