Here are some of the stories we are expecting to follow today (Thursday):
- Pakistan is celebrating its 22nd Youm-e-Takbeer (day of greatness) to mark becoming the seventh atomic power in the world and first ever in the Islamic world. On May 28, 1998, Pakistan conducted five successful nuclear tests in Balochistan’s Chaghi followed by another nuclear test on May 30 in Kharan.
- The Met Office has forecast rainfall and strong winds across the country.
- Locusts have destroyed crops across the country, especially in Punjab. The National Disaster Management Authority has issued a hotline 051-111-222-999 to register complaints of locust attacks.
- Federal Science Minister Fawad Chaudhry has proposed replacing police checkpoints with drone cameras.
- The Pakistan Army has shot down an Indian spying quadcopter in the Rakhchikri sector along the Line of Control.
- NAB has concluded in one of its reports in the Fake Bank Accounts Case that the Omni Group wrongly posed employees of its eight sugar mills as farmers and opened 45 fake accounts.
- Pakistan’s largest private-sector power distribution company K-Electric saw its liabilities (what it owes) surge by 44% to Rs384 billion in 2019.
