An International Cricket Council (ICC) official has stated that this year’s T20 World Cup in Australia may be pushed back to 2022, PTI has reported.
The tournament is scheduled to take place from October 18 and November 15. However, the fate of the competition is uncertain due to the coronavirus pandemic which has put sporting tournaments on hold.
A member of the sport’s governing body said that the institution is looking at several options at the moment.
“The first option is having the World T20 as per schedule with a 14-day quarantine and crowds being allowed,” he said. “The back-up for this option could be a tournament in empty stadiums. The third option could be shifting the tournament to 2022.”
He added that the idea of postponing the tournament may not sit well with Australia, which has already hosted the women’s tournament this year.
India, on the other hand, will be hosting the 2021 edition of the tournament.
