These are some of the stories we will be following today, August 8, 2021, Sunday:

  • Tokyo Olympics: Celebration in Punjab’s Mian Chunnu are underway to welcome Pakistan’s hero, Arshad Malik, back home. The athlete ranked fifth in the javelin throw competition.
  • Karachi lockdown: The Sindh government will lift the lockdown from the province on August 9. Decision on schools and exams will be taken next week.
  • The Lahore police have arrested both the suspects named in the murder case of MPA’s Asad Khokhar’s brother.
  • Pakistan has reported 4,455 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, and 68 deaths. The infection rate has risen to 8%. Vaccinations continue at major centres. See list of centres open 24hrs here.

Major sports development:
Arshad Nadeem’s journey at the Tokyo Olympics came to an end on Saturday where he failed to win a medal for Pakistan. Nadeem finished fifth on the list with the best throw of 84.62. While competing in the javelin event, India’s Neeraj Chopra won a gold medal after making a throw of 87.58.
