All private hospitals in Islamabad will now have to put up a detailed account of the cost of treatment they are charging coronavirus patients.
A notification by Islamabad Deputy Commissioner Hamza Shafqaat issued on June 11 makes it compulsory for hospitals to put up the treatment expenses on their official websites.
“The decision has been taken so that the complaints of varying prices from patient to patient are resolved,” Shafqaat said.
The capital’s district management has pledged that it will not let anyone be charged unjustly. Residents have said such actions should also be taken in other provinces as corruption is higher there.
The development came after a report by SAMAA TV revealed that private hospitals have been charging a whopping Rs100,000 to Rs150,000 for a room for a single night.
Hospital heads had said that the cost is so high because they have to maintain their quality standards and keep running ventilators, which costs a lot.
Pakistan has reported over 130,000 coronavirus cases so far. According to experts, the virus is expected to peak in the country from June to August.
