The Punjab Flour Mills Association has increased the price of a 20kg sack of flour to Rs825 from Rs805. This hike will apply to all cities in Punjab except Rawalpindi.
They say they had to hike the cost by Rs20 because they were being provided wheat at a higher rate.
Flour mills have to buy wheat from open markets where it’s being sold for more than Rs1,475, the association said. However, the Punjab government has fixed the wheat price at Rs1,400.
On the other hand, the Punjab Food Department has tightened screw against hoarders and profiteers. Multiple people have been arrested in recent raids for hoarding thousands of mounds of wheat.
Food Minister Abdul Aleem Khan has assured that the department has intensified action against the offenders by conducting operations in every district of the province. Khan says he’s monitoring the action himself.
