Headlines 9am: Public transport resumes, Karachi traders to open markets

Here are the headlines from SAMAA TV’s 9am bulletin.

  • Public transport in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has resumed. People in Okara and Abbottabad have started visiting bus stands to book tickets and reach their hometowns before Eid.
  • All Karachi Tajir Ittehad Chairperson Atiq Mir has announced that markets and malls in the city will remain open round the clock until Eid. He rejected the orders of the Sindh government and said that traders will open their shops even if they have to go to jail for it. The Karachi commissioner, on the other hand, warned that failure to follow SOPs will lead to shops being sealed and sellers arrested.
  • Prime Minister Imran Khan will chair a meeting today to decided on the resumption of train services across the country. He will also launch the second round of the Ehsaas Emergency Cash Programme for those unemployed because of the virus lockdown.
  • A fresh bench of the Supreme Court, headed by Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed, will hear the suo motu coronavirus case. Other judges include Justice Mushir Alam, Justice Sardar Tariq Masood, Justice Mazhar Alam Khan and Justice Qazi Amin.
  • A man was shot and killed in Mandi Bahauddin by unknown suspects. He was on a motorcycle going back home from work. His body has been sent for a post-mortem examination.
  • A robber was killed during a police operation in Okara. Two of his accomplices managed to escape. During another raid in Sukkur, the police arrested a man accused of robbery and murder. Weapons and motorcycles have been seized from him.
  • An Indian cargo plane made an emergency technical landing in Islamabad early Monday. The plane was heading to Georgia from Calcutta when it needed to land because it was low on fuel. It took off after getting refueled at the Islamabad International Airport.
