Without explaining the move, tech entrepreneur Elon Musk and Grimes have changed their son’s name from X Æ A-12 to X Æ A-Xii, reported The Guardian.
Grimes confirmed the name change in an Instagram post. A fan asked her if the name had been changed to comply with a California law, Grimes replied: “Roman numerals. Looks better tbh.”
The parents have been in the news recently because of “the unusual and largely unpronounceable name of their firstborn child”.
“The couple appeared to have been at odds over how to interpret X Æ A-12 from the outset. The musician, whose real name is Claire Elise Boucher, previously explained that Æ was her ‘elven spelling’ of AI (for artificial intelligence) and ‘X’ stood for “the unknown variable’, said The Guardian.
However, Tesla’s Elon Musk told a podcast host a different story. “I mean it’s just X, the letter X. And then the Æ is, like, pronounced ‘Ash’… and then A-12. A-12 is my contribution,” he said.
