Is Chupke Chupke season two on the cards?

Actor Osman Khalid Butt has responded to rumours about the second season of the highly popular sitcom Chupke Chupke. 

“A lot of you are asking whether a second season of Chupke Chupke is in the works,” he said. “As of yet, there’s no news or development on that front.”

Chupke Chupke started airing in Ramazan and went on to become one of the most liked Ramazan sitcoms, with viewers praising Osman and Ayeza Khan’s chemistry. It attracted criticism, however, for its portrayal of ghar damaads (live-in sons-in-law).

Ali Safina played Mira Sethi’s husband Miskeen, who lives with her family and is constantly let down. Some people said the character reinforced stereotypes as men already find it hard to live with their in-laws due to societal pressures even for genuine reasons.

“If the writer is inspired to write a sequel and the channel’s content heads approve, only then we will get to know, as actors, if anything is happening,” Osman said.

Chupke Chupke starred Osman and Ayeza in the lead, and Mira, Ali and YouTuber Arslan Naseer in supporting roles. It has been written by Saima Akbar Chaudhry.

Covid-19: Pakistan students want their exams cancelled

Students across the country don’t want to sit for their exams this year and they are out on the streets once again.

On Monday, demonstrations were held in Swat, Rajanpur, Bahawalnagar among other cities.

In Swat, students gathered near the Kacheri Chowk and chanted slogans against the government. “If classes were not held then why are exams being taken?” a protester said.

Students of the Swat Government Jahanzaib College rallied on the Saidu Sharif road and closed the road for traffic.

In Rajanpur, protesters blocked the Peshawar-Karachi highway and demanded the government revoke its decision to hold exams. When the protests turned violent, the police baton-charged students and fired tear gas shells at them. Two students and three police officers were injured.

Demonstrators in Bahawalnagar have, on the other hand, said that the exam date should be pushed forward so that they have sufficient time to prepare for exams.

“How can the government just announce a date without consulting students?” a protester questioned. Another student said that the authorities never talk to the people actually getting affected by their decisions.

“We don’t have a spokesperson who can convey our problems and demands to the government.”

Earlier this month, Federal Education Minister Shafqat Mahmood announced that intermediate and matriculation exams will be held in the country from June 29 to July 23.

Cambridge O level exams will be conducted between July 26 and August 5.

Arturo Vidal hospitalised after positive Covid test

Chilean midfielder Arturo Vidal is receiving hospital treatment after testing positive for novel coronavirus, his national team said Monday.

The diagnosis means the 34-year-old will miss Thursday’s World Cup qualifier between Chile and Argentina.

“The medical team of the Chilean national team emphasises that at the request of the player Arturo Vidal, it is announced that he has been diagnosed positive for Covid,” the national team said on its official website.

It said no other players in the squad had tested positive for the virus.

Vidal was initially hospitalised with severe tonsilitis, but tested positive for coronavirus on Monday, the team statement said.

The former Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Juventus star, who was vaccinated against the virus on Friday, will now miss the Qatar 2022 World Cup qualifier with Argentina and another qualifier against Bolivia next week in Santiago.

Minal got engaged to Ahsan Mohsin Ikram in a simple ceremony on May 18 in Karachi. She is one of the most popular actors in Pakistan.

When Deepika Padukone was advised to wear a burqa

Indian designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee once advised Deepika Padukone to wear a burqa for her bridal outfit fittings at his store, Hindustan Times reported.

“A few people from the Mumbai store [knew] because that’s where Deepika used to come secretly for her measurements and I was terrified that there would be press hanging somewhere there,” said Sabyasachi. He advised Deepika to come in a burqa, but Deepika said she would be spotted if she did.

The designer had six months and the first thing he needed was some sort of a code word to keep Deepika’s wedding a secret while travelling most of the time. Sabyasachi was afraid he wouldn’t be able to hide it surrounded by so many people at work so he came up with a name. 

“Most people in my factory thought it was Naomi Campbell getting married to an Indian prince.” Naomi is a British supermodel who has walked the ramp in India with a number of Bollywood stars.

Deepika tied the knot with Ranveer Singh in 2018 in Italy. It was a private lavish affair attended by close family and friends. 

Anushka Sharma’s bridal outfit was designed by Sabyasachi too. His lehengas and saris are worn by a number of celebrities at weddings and award shows.

Syed Jibran under fire for comments on Imran Abbas

Syed Jibran is receiving criticism for his frivolous comments on Imran Abbas’ post in which he called out content creators spreading misinformation. 

“Alizeh, Saboor, Ushna, Urwa, chaar hogayen. I guess sharai quota pura hogaya tera,” Jibran said, referring to polygamy in Islam that allows a man to keep four wives at a time.

Jibran’s banter with writer Saji Gul didn’t sit well with a number of people, who called the two out for trivialising a serious problem.

On Saturday, Imran posted a photo that announced his marriage to Urwa Hocane, his fourth internet marriage since January 2021. He called it “shameful” to link him with women actors who are his friends and requested followers to unsubscribe from misleading YouTube channels and Facebook pages to give such bloggers a taste of their own medicine.

“Don’t these bloggers have anything else to do?” Imran wondered. “Or they think that I’ve got nothing else to do?”

Last week, Ushna Shah too shared a photo showing herself and Imran getting married. It was a screenshot taken from a YouTube video which was posted by Tellyexpress on March 18. Imran reshared her post and joked that the two had forgotten to tell each other about their marriage.  

He has called for, however, an action against content creators spreading fake news this time.
